Ambassador Romain Chaudelt ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท

A New Ambassador of the Scapicchio Academy

Every now and then, someone walks through the doors of the Academy who already carries the spirit of the craft within him. Not someone chasing a title, but someone chasing understanding.

Romain Chaudet, a barber from France, first arrived in Bovino through Obarbershop. He came for Level 1, already experienced with the straight razor, already shaving his clients the traditional way. But as every true craftsman knows, the deeper you go into this craft, the more you realize how much remains unseen.

For Romain, Level 1 was a special moment. Two intense days in Bovino โ€” learning how to properly sharpen a straight razor, understanding the foundation of the edge, and the following day learning how to handle the razor correctly on real models. The fundamentals. The discipline. The respect for the tool.

He passed with distinction.

But for Romain, it was only the beginning.

The knowledge surrounding the straight razor is vast โ€” far too vast to capture in just two days. Questions remained. Curiosity remained. And curiosity is the fuel of every good barber.

So he travelled to Ghent, Belgium, for Level 2 โ€” the advanced program.

There the work becomes deeper. Sharper. More demanding.

Angles of the razor.
Understanding steel.
Freehand honing of a kamisori and a full wedge.
Technique refined through repetition.
Theory mixed with hands-on practice.

The second day moves beyond the blade itself:
head shaves, beard sculpting, professional workflow, business insights โ€” and of course, the ritual of the shave itself.

Once again, Romain passed with excellence.

But he wanted more.

He returned to Bovino, to face the Ambassador Examination.

A written test of 120 questions, designed to measure not only theory, but technical understanding and depth of knowledge. Students are given two hours.

For Romain, this was no obstacle.

He passed again, with distinction.

The following day is where things become real.

The practical examination.

Freehand honing of a kamisori and a full wedge, under the watchful eye of Master Barber Luigi Scapicchio himself, along with the other masters of the Academy. Then the shave.

Not in a calm studio.
Not in perfect conditions.

But in Bovino.
Noise. Pressure. Unfamiliar surroundings. Eyes watching.

Because the idea is simple:
A true barber must be able to perform anywhere.

Under pressure. Under scrutiny. With confidence.

And once again โ€” Romain delivered.

With great pride, the official title of Ambassador of the Scapicchio Academy was awarded to Romain Chaudet of France.

We are honored to welcome him into the family.

Becoming an Ambassador is not the end of the road. It is a responsibility. A continuation of the craft. A commitment to the discipline and traditions that define this profession.

In time, we will evaluate whether Romain has the qualities to become a Master. Skills, leadership, dedication, and the ability to build and guide a community of barbers will all play their part.

Because one thing is certain within this Academy:

Mastery cannot be bought.
It must be earned.
