How to reach Bovino
Bovino is a small hill town. A rental car is the simplest and most flexible option from either airport. Public transport is possible, but the last stage from Foggia should be arranged in advance.
Our recommendation: rent a car
Naples usually gives the most direct drive to Bovino; Bari is also a good gateway. Allow roughly 2–2½ hours depending on your airport, traffic and route. Check live navigation before departure. Reserve an automatic early if required — manual cars are more common in Italy.
From Naples Airport
- Collect your rental car at Naples International Airport.
- Follow live navigation towards Candela and then Bovino. The route may change due to traffic and road works.
- Use the Academy Google Maps pin for the final approach. The historic centre has narrow streets.
- Take the official Alibus or a taxi to Napoli Centrale.
- Take a Trenitalia Intercity or regional connection to Foggia.
- From Foggia, continue by a pre-booked transfer, taxi or ACAPT bus to Bovino.
Important: do not plan your journey around Bovino–Deliceto railway station. It is outside the village and services can be sparse or replaced by buses.
From Bari Airport
- Collect your rental car at Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport.
- Drive towards Foggia and then follow the SS90 towards Bovino.
- Use live navigation and the Academy Google Maps pin for the final approach.
- Take the airport railway to Bari Centrale.
- Take a Trenitalia train from Bari Centrale to Foggia.
- From Foggia, continue by a pre-booked transfer, taxi or ACAPT bus to Bovino.
Allow a generous connection: flight delays and separate bus or rail tickets may not protect your onward journey.
Accommodation & meals are arranged for you
During the Academy programme, your accommodation will be booked by Luigi Scapicchio and your meals will be organised by the Academy.
Bovino is a small village with limited accommodation and dining options, so these arrangements are handled internally to make your stay simple and comfortable.

Must-see Bovino
Bovino is one of Italy’s recognised historic villages: compact, atmospheric and best explored slowly on foot. Opening hours can be limited, so book museums or guided visits ahead.
Historic centre
Wander through stone lanes, arches, carved portals and small courtyards, with wide views across the Daunian hills.
Ducal Castle
The hilltop castle is central to Bovino’s story and houses the Diocesan Museum. Check access before visiting.
Cathedral
Visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, known for its Romanesque-Puglian façade and long religious history.
Cantine Cerrato
Ancient underground cisterns reveal the Roman settlement beneath today’s village. Visits generally require a reservation.
Civic Museum
The Museo Civico “Carlo Gaetano Nicastro” brings together archaeological finds from prehistory through later centuries.
Valleverde Sanctuary
A peaceful sanctuary just outside the old centre, set in the green landscape surrounding Bovino.

For comfortable weather and beautiful landscapes, late spring and early autumn are the best all-round choices. Bovino sits at elevation, so evenings may feel cool even when the plains are warm.

Quick answers
Should I choose Naples or Bari?
If you are renting a car, Naples is usually the more direct route to Bovino. Bari remains a practical alternative, especially when flight times or prices are better. Compare the complete journey, not only the airfare.
Can I come entirely by train?
You can travel by rail as far as Foggia, but Bovino itself needs a final road transfer. Arrange that last stage with the Academy or a local service before you travel.
Do I book my own hotel?
No. During the Academy programme, accommodation is booked by Luigi Scapicchio and meals are arranged by the Academy. Please communicate special requirements early.
Can I add an extra day?
Yes, subject to advance confirmation and availability. The indicative price is approximately €60 per person per extra day for accommodation and meals, excluding applicable local taxes.
Do I need a car while in Bovino?
The historic centre is walkable, although steep. A car is useful for airport transfers and nearby day trips. Park carefully outside the narrowest historic streets and follow local signs.
