Stijn De Sutter is no stranger to the barbering world, and within the Scapicchio Academy, he plays a role that is both grounding and forward-driving.
Founder of three barbershops and the brand ROMAIN, Stijn has built his name on high standards, clean service, and uncompromising craft. He’s the kind of barber who believes that “good” is never the goal, consistent excellence is.
Often called “Il Gigante” the big, friendly giant, Stijn brings calm authority to every room he enters. He’s approachable, generous with his knowledge, and genuinely invested in the people in front of him. But don’t mistake kindness for softness: when it comes to technique and discipline, he holds the line.
Recognised as Proraso Master Barber and an international educator, Stijn teaches the full discipline of traditional barbering: service rituals, straight-razor shaving, and precision honing. His approach draws deeply from Italian tradition, and is sharpened further by a strong connection to Japanese sharpening culture and stones. He tests, refines, and translates complex skills into clear, repeatable methods.
He is also the author of the practical Barber Manual, created to help barbers turn talent into structure and structure into results. A guide not for theory, but for real work: the kind that holds up under pressure, day after day.
Within the Scapicchio Academy, Stijn serves proudly as a Master Barber and Tutor, authorised to teach under the official Academy standards and to guide students through the pathway toward diploma progression. He is also the mind behind Level 2 in Ghent, a deeper, more advanced training experience created to take the Academy method further, with more time, more detail, and more mastery.
Stijn is a traveller by nature. He speaks multiple languages, moves easily across cultures, and carries the Scapicchio philosophy wherever he goes, not as marketing, but as mission. He collaborates with respected heritage brands, bringing real-world product knowledge and sharpening expertise into the classroom, always focused on what truly serves the craft.
What drives him is simple: to keep the old craft alive, modern, respected, and real, by passing it forward with the same discipline and passion that define the Scapicchio Academy.
